Qmail - Using a Smarthost to relay email

Configuring Qmail to use a smarthost

The file where Qmail relay to a smarthost is named smtproutes and is usually found in:

/var/qmail/control

We use the hostname ‘mailout.serverpronto.com” as outgoing server.

SSH to your server and run the following:

  • #echo “:mailout.serverpronto.com” > /var/qmail/control/smtproutes

This command will set qmail to route all your outgoing mail to mailout.serverpronto.com (will remove other existing lines).
