Disable DNS Recursion in Windows

Disable DNS Recursion Microsoft 2003 and 2008

Follow the below steps to disable recursion using the Windows interface:

  1. Select Start
  2. Hover over Administrative Tools
  3. Select DNS
  4. Right-click the applicable DNS server in the console tree
  5. Select Properties
  6. Select the Advanced tab
  7. Within Server options select the Disable recursion check box
  8. Select OK

Follow the below steps to disable recursion using the command line:

  1. At the command prompt type the below command and press Enter then enter the below code:

      dnscmdServerName/Config/NoRecursion {1|0}
