Most people have a general understanding that cybercrime is a very real problem. Also, a threat to just about anyone who has an Internet connection and data they’d like to protect. If your company has a relational database, you should know that you’re a potential target of hackers who would love to take a look at the information you have to offer. Companies like PBS, Sony Pictures, LinkedIn, and Yahoo! have all suffered from these types of attacks. In fact, the same can even be said for the CIA. While you may have heard that in the news, what you might not know is that the same type of attack was used each time: a SQL injection.

Most companies rely on at least one database if not several. With so many companies depending on them, it’s easy to look at databases with a bias that one size fits all. If you currently have this perspective, know that it could soon cost you. At the very least, you probably won’t get as much as you could from your database. However, there could be far direr consequences too. Consider the following best practices, then, so you don’t wind up with a database that underperforms.

Like most companies, yours probably relies on a database or two. If this sounds like your business, there’s a really good chance you’re leveraging SQL. This popular programming language was made specifically to help people manage data stored in a relational database management system (RDBMS). It also works for stream processing, though that would be for a relational data stream management system (RDSMS).

Creating the perfect computer for your specific needs is easier than ever before. In today’s day and age, you can literally build a computer part-by-part until you’ve tailor-made one that is unique from any other on the planet. Though yours will differ from others in many ways, one thing that will be the same is the presence of an operating system. Without one, your computer is no better than a person without their brain. While there are all kinds of operating systems available today, one of the most popular is Linux.

If you’re a system administrator, you probably feel like your work is never done. So, the larger the system, the more of that work that probably needs to be done regularly too. And, no matter what kind of operating system you depend on,  so troubleshooting is usually required to resolve problems involving them. For those working with Windows 7, the following command line functions will make this that much easier to do.

There are a million reasons it pays to keep your server safe. Obviously, if you’re providing it as a business, it’s the only way to ensure customers stay happy. It’s also how you avoid lawsuits. However, for anyone operating a server, for whatever reason, security needs to be the first priority. If that component is jeopardized, the entire server is no longer worth a dime.

Although the digital age has provided us with all kinds of benefits we probably couldn’t live without, it’s also served up a number of challenges too. By far, the biggest of these challenges is probably the risk to digital security. Keeping your server secure is just as important as the security you would employ on a building. In some ways, it may even be more important, considering all the information (social security numbers, customer credit card numbers, payroll figures, etc.) that could be potentially harvested from a hacked server. The following five server security mistakes are ones you should avoid making to keep hackers at bay.

As more people like you and me operate on social media accounts, social media bots or socialbots as they are known as. Are also going to operate more frequently. A socialbot is a software application that automatically interacts in social media sites by imitating human behavior. This simply means that you could be interacting with a social media bot when you think it is a human that you are interacting with. 7% of all Twitter users are believed to socialbots.
