One of the biggest trends in computing at the moment is the cloud. Sure, it’s technically been around for forever, but in the past five years or so, it’s been something that more and more of the public have been able to adopt. The cloud has also increased its reach, meaning a number of different things can now operate in a virtual environment. This includes a server. For example, though the cloud is supposed to guarantee you can go just about anywhere and still get access to whatever you need, this doesn’t necessarily hold up for cloud servers. That is, some applications will most likely not be feasible with a cloud server, limiting what you’re able to access and do with it.

If security is a concern—and in this day and age, it certainly should be—then you may have a few reservations about using a cloud server.  In many ways, your server security is now just as important as the kind you exercise for any other assets you have online. Speaking of your provider, it’s never easy switching from one host to another. That being said, you’ll find it especially difficult to do when you’re using the cloud. With typical servers, it can be just a matter of switching out hardware where the data is stored. However, with cloud servers, it’s going to be a much more involved process. It’s still possible, of course, but do you really want to put your company through this lengthy scenario?

Access could also be a problem for some using a cloud server. That’s because it will be based on your Internet connection. If you have a bad connection, all the info on your cloud server will be very difficult to reach.

Lastly, customer service could be an issue. This is a bit of a generalization, but cloud apps are not well known for their superior customer service. Unfortunately, if anything happens to your server, you’ll need help right away.

In the end, there are still a number of upsides related to cloud servers, so it might still be worth looking into. Just be sure you take the above into consideration first.
