Your company has finally gotten to the point where a typical server just doesn’t cut it anymore. Dedicated Servers vs Cloud

While cloud servers are often heralded as being the most cost-effective option, it’s tough to argue that they rival most dedicated servers.

Much of this is because dedicated servers still offer better performance across the board. This is especially true where disk IO (Input/Output) is concerned. In fact, most cloud servers still offer shared services. It may still be superior to traditional versions, but not better than a dedicated server. This in terms of having your own resources. Lastly, don’t confuse more storage with faster storage. Cloud servers offer the former, not the latter— a key distinction.

Transparency

Another place dedicated servers are generally superior is transparency. This may not seem like a big deal now, but wait until you have some bug or other issue interfering with your server’s performance. Again, as a shared service, you can’t expect much transparency, at least not the kind that will do you any good. You might discover another user is causing a bottleneck, but so what? There’s nothing you can do about it.

Though it may seem counterintuitive, dedicated servers are actually far more redundant than their cloud counterparts. There’s a misconception that cloud servers must be the most redundant because they lack hardware. This isn’t 100% true though. Clouds still rely on nodes, for example, and they can be even more fragile in this environment. Furthermore, trying to inject your cloud server with redundancy will take a lot of work and require someone with an advanced level of understanding about servers.

Though the cloud certainly has its advantages, most of the time, dedicated servers are still the way to go.
