Before you begin you will need to configure and verify network connectivity.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>You will also need to install the following software:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Apache2<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>php5<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>vsftp <\/strong><\/em><em>(or your favorite FTP program)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>openssh-server<\/strong><\/em><em> (or your favorite ssh program)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>MySQL<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>To begin installing WordPress, first, we will <\/em><strong>download and install the WordPress software<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> <strong><em>wget http:\/\/wordpress.org\/latest.tar.gz <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Then extract the fil<\/strong><strong>e<\/strong><strong>: <\/strong><strong><em>sudo tar -zxvf latest.tar.gz <\/em><\/strong><strong>The extracted file is named WordPress.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Now move the wordpress folder into the \/var\/www directory<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><strong><em> sudo mv wordpress \/var\/www\/wordpress <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Change directory to \/var\/www:<\/strong> <strong><em>cd \/var\/www <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Start the<\/strong> mysql software installed on your server:<strong><em> mysql -u -root -p<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Next, enter the command<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><strong><em> Create database wordpress;<\/em><\/strong> This command creates a database called wordpess.<\/p>\n<p>To confirm that the database was created successful enter the command:\u00c2\u00a0<strong><em>Show databases; <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once you have confirmed the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153WordPress\u00e2\u20ac\u009d database enter the command:\u00c2\u00a0<strong><em>E<strong>xit<\/strong><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rename your wp-config.sample.php file to wp-config.php: \u00c2\u00a0<strong><em>sudo mv wp-config-sample.php wp-config.php <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Next, edit the file wp-config.php<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><strong><em> sudo nano wp-config.php<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For the next step, we will install php5-mysql. This is very important: \u00c2\u00a0<strong><em>sudo apt-get install php5-MySQL<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Finally, restart apache<\/em><em>: <strong>sudo \/etc\/init.d\/apache2 restart<\/strong><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Test to ensure that the install was successful- enter your IP address into your internet browser and hit enter.
