Plesk is a commercial web hosting automation solution by SWsoft. It was deveoped for professional hosting service providers in order toinstall and manage all systems and applications for web hosting on a single server. It allows a server administrator to set up new websites, e-mail accounts, and DNS entries through a web-based interface. Created to allow Sys-admins to manage thousands of virtual hosts on a single machine, Plesk eliminates constraints to increasing per server profitability.

Plesk is the only control panel on the market that is both Linux and Windows based. It is used by hosters in several scenerios, more specifically for shared, virtual and dedicated hosting.

Other services managed by Plesk include MySQL and PostgreSQL databases (Microsoft SQL server and Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine under Windows), Tomcat JAVA server, ColdFusion server, and game servers.

Plesk has two branches of development. Plesk for Linux/UNIX aims at supporting several POSIX platforms, including Red Hat Linux/Fedora, SUSE, Debian/Ubuntu, FreeBSD and Mac OS X. Plesk for Windows supports Windows Server 2003 operating system.
