Webmin is a system configuration tool for Unix-like systems. It has a web-based interface for configuring some of the internals of an operating system.

It is largely based on PERL and runs its own process and web server. It typically uses TCP port 10000 for communicating and can be configured to use SSL if OpenSSL is installed.

Webmin is built around modules which have an interface to the config files and an interface to the webmin server. Due to Webmin's modular design it is possible for users to write plugins for desktop configuration.

Webmin also allows for both the control of several machines through a single interface and for seamless login on other webmin hosts in the same LAN. Webmin has a sister project, Usermin, which is similar but designed for general tasks, not just administration tasks.

Almost all the development of Webmin was done by Jamie Cameron, though many people have contributed patches and translations into additional languages. There are also many third-party modules that were developed.
